Jetstar Takes Delivery of First A320 from SALE

21 Jun 2004

Australia's Jetstar Airways, the new low cost unit of Qantas Airways, has taken delivery of its first A320 aircraft, on lease from Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE). The new aircraft (MSN 2169) touched down at the carrier's home base in Melbourne today, following a weekend delivery flight from the Airbus final assembly line in Toulouse, France.

Altogether, SALE is leasing three new A320s to Jetstar, with the second and third aircraft scheduled for delivery next month. These will be followed in the fourth quarter of the year by the first of 20 aircraft ordered directly by Jetstar from Airbus, for delivery through to 2006. All the aircraft are powered by IAE V2500 engines and feature a comfortable 177 single class layout.

Robert Martin, Managing Director of SALE, said that the company was excited to play a role in the launch of Jetstar.

“The low cost segment is a key area of growth in the Asia-Pacific region and will serve to stimulate additional traffic on short to medium range point-to-point services,” he said. “With its brand new A320 fleet, Jetstar will be able to offer passengers a formidable product, combining comfortable and efficient service with highly attractive pricing."

Celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, SALE is the leading Asia-based aircraft leasing company, with a fleet of 60 modern aircraft and 31 customers worldwide. The company's client base includes carriers from every sector of the airline industry, including full service, low cost, franchise and charter operators.
