09 Jan 2012

BOC Aviation has signed an agreement with South African Airways for the lease of two new A320-200 aircraft.  The aircraft, powered by IAE2527-A5 SelectOne engines, are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of this year.

Ms. Siza Mizmela, Chief Executive Officer of South African Airways, said the airline is focused on strengthening its African route network on which the aircraft will be deployed.  “We are confident that this partnership with BOC Aviation is the start to a long-term relationship,” she said.

“This is our first transaction with South African Airways, the flag carrier and largest airline in South Africa,” said Mr. Steven Townend, Deputy Managing Director & Chief Commercial Officer of BOC Aviation.  “We are delighted to have our aircraft flying in their fleet and look forward to building on this initial deal with further aircraft in the future.”

BOC Aviation is the leading Asia-based aircraft leasing company with a portfolio of 177 modern aircraft operated by airlines worldwide. In addition, the company has 71 aircraft on firm order and another two on committed purchase and leaseback.  BOC Aviation has one of the youngest fleets in the industry with an average aircraft age of less than four years.

BOC Aviation is 100% owned by Bank of China, one of the largest banks in the world.
