SALE Signs with Lauda Italia for Two A321s

18 Nov 2002

Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE) has finalised agreements with Lauda Italia covering the lease of two new A321s. The deal marks the first time that SALE has worked with the Italian carrier and the aircraft will be the first Airbus types to be operated by the airline.

Scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2003, the aircraft are being leased to the airline on 10-year terms and will be powered by IAE V2500 engines. The aircraft will be operated on the carriers’ services to destinations in Southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Robert Martin, Managing Director of SALE, said that the company was pleased to be involved in the next phase of the development of the Italian carrier.

“The deal between our two companies is an excellent example of how a leasing company can enable a growing carrier to acquire new aircraft,” he said. “It also demonstrates the role lessors can play in introducing new aircraft types to a fleet and we are pleased to be able to bring Lauda Italia to the Airbus and IAE operator lists.”

Incorporated in 1993, SALE has swiftly grown to become one of the world’s leading aircraft leasing companies. Altogether, the company’s portfolio now comprises 43 modern aircraft, with a total of 30 A320 family aircraft on order for delivery through to 2008. Offering true global coverage, SALE has offices in Singapore, London, Washington D.C. and San Diego, California.

Lauda Italia is one of Italy’s fastest growing independent carriers and is jointly owned by Niki Lauda and the Ventaglio Group, one of the most important operators in the Italian tourism market. In addition to medium range routes, the carrier also operates long haul services to the Caribbean and South America.
