Martinair Leases Two A320s from SALE

Dutch carrier Martinair has signed a contract with Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE) for the lease of two new Airbus A320 aircraft, due for delivery in March this year. The deal marks the first time that SALE has worked with the Amsterdam-based carrier and the aircraft will also be the first Airbus single aisle types to be operated by the airline.

Powered by IAE V2500 engines, the new aircraft are part of existing SALE orders with Airbus. The aircraft will be configured in a single class layout with a total of 180 seats and will be operated to destinations in Southern Europe.

Robert Martin, Managing Director of SALE, said that the lease of the aircraft to Martinair consolidated further the Singapore lessor’s presence in Europe, with 39% of its fleet now leased to airlines in the region.

“With almost 45 years experience in the scheduled and charter market, Martinair is one of Europe’s most established carriers,” he said. “We are therefore proud to be able to add the Martinair name to our growing list of customers and to have been able to play a role in the introduction of a new aircraft at the airline.”

The company’s portfolio now comprises 44 modern aircraft, with a total of 29 more A320 family aircraft on order for delivery through to 2008. Offering true global coverage, SALE has offices in Singapore, London, Washington D.C. and San Diego, California.

Altogether, SALE has placed firm orders with Airbus for 51 A320 family aircraft, of which 22 have already been delivered. The company currently has A320 family leases in place with airlines in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and North and South America.
