22 Feb 2008

Singapore-based BOC Aviation has signed a contract with Airbus for the firm order of five A330-200F cargo aircraft. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2012 and 2013. The order was announced today at the biennial Singapore Air Show.

Robert Martin, BOC Aviation Chief Executive Officer, said the contract marked the first time that BOC Aviation has ordered cargo aircraft directly from a manufacturer.

"This order reflects our confidence in strong future demand for widebody production freighter aircraft," he said. "The payload capability and range of the A330-200F make it an appealing choice in the mid-size category and we feel sure that the aircraft will provide us with a strong return on our investment."

"We are delighted to welcome another new customer for our latest, fast selling Freighter aircraft, the A330-200F", said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. "Having BOC Aviation as a new customer for our successful new freighter is a further recognition that the aircraft's unique flexibility, excellent efficiency and superior performance are fully in line with what the market needs," he added.

The A330-200F is a twin engine widebody aircraft capable of carrying 64 metric tonnes over 4,000 nautical miles/7400 kilometres in its standard version. It is an all-freight version of the popular A330-200 passenger aircraft.

BOC Aviation is the leading Asia-based aircraft leasing company with a portfolio of over 70 modern aircraft flying with 29 airlines worldwide. In addition, it has another 65 aircraft on firm order for delivery through to 2013. From Airbus, these include the five A330 aircraft ordered today, as well as 20 single aisle A320s.

BOC Aviation is 100% owned by Bank of China.
