BOC Aviation Orders 30 A320 Family Aircraft
03 Nov 2010
BOC Aviation has signed an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 30 A320 Family aircraft for delivery from 2012 to 2014. Including today’s order, the Company has ordered a total of 128 A320 Family aircraft of which 80 have been delivered. BOC Aviation will make an announcement on the engine decision shortly.
"The current order is timely as the aviation industry has returned to profitability and airlines are looking to add capacity," said Robert Martin, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BOC Aviation. “In the last three years, we successfully doubled the size of our fleet and have over 160 aircraft as of today. In the years ahead, we will continue to focus on sustainable organic growth by adding reliable and efficient aircraft. A320 Family aircraft are a good fit as they have proven economics and meet both our investment targets and our customers’ operating goals.”
BOC Aviation last placed a firm order for A320 Family aircraft in 2006 and all of those aircraft will be delivered by the end of next year.
“The announcement from BOC Aviation is another vote of confidence in the long-term appeal of the A320 Family. It works well for the financial community based on its wide operator base, proven operating economics and strong residual values," said John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer Customers, Airbus. “With its latest commitment BOC Aviation will be well placed to build on its position as a top tier leasing company."
Customers of BOC Aviation will have the option to select Sharklets for aircraft delivering from 2013. Sharklets are large wingtip devices that enhance environmental and payload-range performance, cutting fuel burn by some 3.5% over longer sectors.
BOC Aviation is the leading Asia-based aircraft leasing company with a portfolio of 163 modern aircraft operated by airlines worldwide. Including today’s announcement, the Company has 69 aircraft on firm order and four on committed purchase and leaseback for delivery through to 2014. BOC Aviation has one of the youngest fleets in the industry with an average aircraft age of less than four years.
BOC Aviation is 100% owned by Bank of China.
