BOC Aviation to Lease Two New A321-200 Aircraft to Etihad Airways

21 Nov 2012

BOC Aviation has signed agreements for the lease of two new A321-200 aircraft to Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates.  Both aircraft, to be equipped with IAE V2533-A5 SelectOne engines, are scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2014.  The two aircraft will be leased by Etihad Airways as part of a planned batch of Airbus A320s which the airline is converting to A321s.

According to James Hogan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, the UAE flag carrier has seen increasingly strong demand across different routes in 2012 and is enjoying double-digit passenger growth compared to the previous year.

“Our expansion plans are well on track and the A321s will be used to add depth and capacity to our existing network.  We are delighted to be working with BOC Aviation again and expect to further build upon the strong ties that have already been established.”

Steven Townend, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Commercial Officer of BOC Aviation, said the transaction underscores the importance of leasing in an airline’s fleet management strategy.  He said, “BOC Aviation are delighted to be able to play a further role in meeting Etihad Airways’ future fleet requirements and look forward to continuing the long and mutually beneficial partnership between our two companies."

BOC Aviation is the leading Asia-based aircraft leasing company with a portfolio of 203 owned and managed aircraft operated by airlines worldwide and another 54 aircraft on firm order. The Company has one of the youngest fleets in the industry with an average owned aircraft age of less than four years.
